A five-year-old girl was found dead after her mum made a horror confession to hospital staff about what was in her truck.
Police swarmed Spring Creek Park in Harris County, Texas on Sunday after the girl’s mum, 35, drove to hospital with the youngster in her boot.
Sergeant Ben Beall said the mum, an unidentified white female, told staff at HCA Tomball hospital that she had killed her daughter.
The woman entered the emergency room shortly after midday and went on to tell staff that her little girl was in her grey Jeep Cherokee, having been stabbed to death.
Nurses then rushed to check on the girl where a doctor pronounced her dead, the Sun reports.
While the five year old’s mum said the fatal incident happened at Spring Creek Park, police couldn’t find any evidence when they got there.
The mum has since been detained and transported to the homicide unit of the sheriff’s office where she is being questioned.
“The child does have a wound to the neck which is consistent with what the mother said,” Sgt Beall told a news conference.
“However we believe she was probably killed somewhere other than inside the vehicle.
“We’re still in the early stages of the investigation.”
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez had previously written on Twitter that the wound was a result of the girl allegedly being “cut/stabbed by her mother”.
The area has since been cleared, and the names of the mum and child have not been released to the public.
